Soms Coffee
Naturally Grown Robusta from the Highlands of Coorg
Soms Coffee grows in the misty highlands of Coorg at around 3,000 feet above sea level, where mountain air, forest shade, and rich living soil nurture the life of the farm.
For more than five decades, this land has produced coffee as part of a thriving forest ecosystem. Today, Soms Coffee continues this legacy with a mindful approach to farming — one that trusts the natural intelligence of the soil and the delicate balance of the environment.

When the rains finally arrive, the farm transforms overnight. Every branch erupts in tiny white flowers and the whole estate smells like jasmine for a few short days. It's the moment that decides the entire crop.
At Soms Coffee, Robusta is grown entirely without artificial fertilisers, pesticides, or weedicides. The farm relies on nature itself to nourish and protect the crop, allowing the soil and surrounding biodiversity to work in harmony.

The Robusta plants grow under the canopy of tall native trees. Pepper vines climb through the estate while bamboo, fruit trees, banana plants, and spices grow alongside the coffee. This layered, forest-like landscape creates a naturally balanced environment where plants, birds, insects, and microorganisms all play their part in sustaining the farm.
The soil here is never tilled or disturbed. By allowing the land to remain undisturbed, the underground ecosystem — roots, beneficial microbes, fungi, and the vast mycelium network — continues to flourish. This living soil constantly recycles nutrients and supports the health of the coffee plants naturally.

Earthworms, the quiet stewards of fertile soil, thrive here. Their presence is a sign of a healthy ecosystem and a reminder that living soil cannot coexist with chemicals. For this reason, the farm remains free from synthetic inputs, protecting both the soil and the life it sustains.
This natural approach also keeps the estate closely connected to the surrounding forest. Rabbits, wild boar, and wild hens move freely through the land, finding shelter and food among the coffee and shade trees. The farm is not separate from nature — it is part of it.

During harvest season, the cherries are carefully hand-picked by skilled harvesters, whose experience ensures that only the best ripe cherries are selected. Their work is valued and fairly compensated, continuing a tradition of respect for both people and land.

After harvest, the cherries are naturally sun-dried, allowing the warmth of the Coorg sun and the cool mountain air to slowly develop the character of the beans. This gentle, patient process preserves the coffee's depth, body, and natural flavour.

Soms Coffee is grown with a simple belief: when the soil is alive, everything around it thrives. From living soil comes a conscious cup of Soms Coffee.
